
WHEREAS, Assemblywoman Teresa Benitez-Thompson has served with honor and distinction in the Nevada State Assembly since she was first elected to represent Assembly District 27 in 2011; and
WHEREAS, she became the first Latina Majority Leader of the State Assembly in 2016, and has served in that position for six years; and
WHEREAS, during her time as a member of the State Assembly and as Majority Leader she has led the effort on transformative policy and legislation; and
WHEREAS, she is a longtime Nevadan, a graduate of McQueen High School, and a proud descendent of Mexican immigrants; and
WHEREAS, Assemblywoman Benitez-Thompson was also Miss Nevada in 2002, and third runner-up in the 2003 Miss America pageant; and
WHEREAS, Assemblywoman Benitez-Thompson is also a graduate of the University of Nevada Reno, and she holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan; and
WHEREAS, she is a licensed social worker who has provided countless hours of dedicated and compassionate care to the people she serves; and
WHEREAS, she and her husband, Jeff Thompson, are the parents of four wonderful children; and
WHEREAS, 2022 will be her last year in the Nevada Legislature, completing 12 years of unsurpassed service; and
WHEREAS, on behalf of the residents of the State of Nevada, I thank and commend Assemblywoman Benitez-Thompson for her many years of devoted and honorable service to our Silver State and wish her continued success in all of her future endeavors;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim October 20, 2022, as a day in honor of
ASSEMBLYWOMAN BENITEZ-THOMPSON
