
WHEREAS, reporter Jeff German’s career in Las Vegas spanned four decades both at the Las Vegas Sun and the Las Vegas Review-Journal after getting hooked on journalism back in his hometown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he completed an internship in the late 1970s; and
WHEREAS, Jeff German was known for his investigative work exposing corruption and his beats included courts, politics, labor, government and organized crime; and
WHEREAS, Jeff German showed a dogged determination for holding those in power accountable, and possessed a strong sense of right and wrong; and
WHEREAS, Jeff German’s talent extended beyond traditional newspaper storytelling to include writing and hosting a podcast called “Mobbed Up: The Fight for Vegas” and publishing a book based upon his reporting around the death of Ted Binion, titled “Murder in Sin City: The Death of a Las Vegas Casino Boss;”; and
WHEREAS, Jeff German served as a mentor and trusted source for up-and-coming journalists as well as a loving and loyal brother, uncle and friend; and
WHEREAS, Jeff German was stabbed to death on September 2 outside his Las Vegas home after almost four decades of reporting on corruption, crime and courts in Las Vegas; and
WHEREAS, Jeff German's legacy will continue to live on through the spirit of reporters in the State; and
WHEREAS, on September 24, 2022, the Nevada Press Association is posthumously inducting Jeff German into the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim September 24, 2022, as a day in honor of
JEFF GERMAN
