WHEREAS, Minority Health Month is recognized annually and the 2022 national theme of 'Give Your Community a Boost' is an opportunity for the State of Nevada to emphasize the importance of culturally competent and accessible care for all Nevadans; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to addressing health disparities in communities and the Health in All Policy approach provides the methods to reverse disproportionately experienced hardships by Nevada's most vulnerable demographics and populations to achieve comprehensive, equitable outcomes across all social determinants of health; and
WHEREAS, through the principles of cultural competency, Nevadans can bring about the necessary changes in thinking and behavior that will propel this great State forward where biases based on factors such as race/ethnicity, ability status, sexual orientation/gender identity, geographic proximity or immigration status will become less of a hinderance to community wellness; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to bringing agencies across the State together to collaborate and learn from the Nevada Office of Minority Health and Equity (NOMHE), Governor's Office for New Americans and partners working to action the principles of health equity and inclusion; and
WHEREAS, agencies across the State are better able to serve all Nevadans through legislation to support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the State of Nevada recognizes the diverse needs of Nevadans; and
WHEREAS, NOMHE is working to assist community-based organizations who support the health of those they serve and reverse negative health outcomes to achieve a healthier community and State; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of the commitment of State agencies to implement Diversity, Equity and Inclusion activities and culturally competent service delivery, NOMHE is developing efforts to effectuate systemic change across Nevada; and
WHEREAS, all Nevadans are encouraged to reflect on their health and the health of their loved ones and recognize that systemic changes must be made to ensure all Nevadans are able to access care in a comfortable, safe environment;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2022, as
MINORITY HEALTH MONTH IN NEVADA
