
WHEREAS, each May 1st is recognized as National Law Day across the United States of America, with this year's theme being "The Rule of Law and the American Dream"; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering civic responsibility and understanding of the law as essential to preserving the freedoms and principles upon which our nation was founded; and
WHEREAS, a well-informed community is vital to upholding the rule of law, and educating young Nevadans about the role of law in society is essential to ensuring that future generations appreciate the rights and responsibilities inherent in our constitutional system; and
WHEREAS, helping youth understand how the law actually works-and how even unintentional missteps can have serious consequences-is key to ensuring they can pursue their goals without being derailed by mistakes they did not know were illegal; and
WHEREAS, Project REAL-a nonprofit dedicated to fostering civic engagement and critical thinking in Nevada's youth-has played an instrumental role in preventing accidental crimes through its REALReady program, which equips young people with the knowledge and confidence to make decisions that keep them safe, in school, and on track toward the futures they deserve; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada encourages all citizens, particularly parents, educators, and mentors, to engage young people in meaningful discussions about their legal rights and obligations, reinforcing the principle that awareness and understanding of the law are fundamental to responsible citizenship; and
WHEREAS, these efforts to enhance legal awareness and civic education will strengthen the foundation of our democracy and contribute to the overall well-being and safety of our state;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2026, as
NEVADA YOUTH LAW AWARENESS DAY
