
WHEREAS, every child in Nevada deserves meaningful access to high-quality, inclusive literature in multiple formats-including print, digital, and audio-that reflects their identities and experiences, expands their understanding of the world, and cultivates inquiry, empathy, and a lifelong love of reading; and
WHEREAS, Nevada continues to strengthen literacy outcomes through statewide collaboration among educators, families, community partners, and stakeholders, ensuring students are supported with research-based instruction, equitable resources, and innovative approaches that build strong reading foundations and promote learning within and beyond the classroom; and
WHEREAS, educators across Nevada remain deeply committed to advancing effective reading instruction from early childhood through secondary education, providing specialized supports that meet the diverse needs of students and empower every learner to develop the essential literacy skills necessary for sustained success; and
WHEREAS, Nevada Reading Week celebrates the transformative power of reading and invites students to embark on a journey through books-one that fuels curiosity, imagination, and critical thinking, strengthens communities, and prepares learners of all ages to contribute meaningfully to the future of the Silver State; and
WHEREAS, the mission of Nevada Reading Week is to spark a love of reading and honor the joy and power of literacy across Nevada, with the Nevada Reading Week theme for 2026, being Book An Adventure;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of March 2 - 6, 2026, as
