WHEREAS, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease of the central nervous system, affecting nearly 1 million people in the United States; and

WHEREAS, MS generally strikes individuals between ages 20 through 40 and women are twice as likely to have MS as men; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) urges news media, educators, healthcare providers, and relevant governmental officials and organizations to disseminate factual information and educational resources to the residents of the state. These materials should focus on the signs, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of MS; and

WHEREAS, MS symptoms vary, and common symptoms include numbness or tingling, electric-shock sensation with certain neck movements, weakness, lack of coordination, fatigue, blurred vision or double vision, slurred speech, and issues with memory and progress to paralysis; and

WHEREAS, risk factors for MS include but are not limited to age, sex, race, family history, climate, levels of vitamin D, obesity, and smoking;

WHEREAS, the Nevada Revised Statutes, NRS 236.067 requires the Governor shall annually proclaim the third week in March to be "Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week";

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of March 16 - 20, 2026, as

MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AWARENESS WEEK IN NEVADA
