
WHEREAS, Chris DeWitt has honorably served the State of Nevada for more than 35 years in the Restoration Shop of the Nevada State Railroad Museum, dedicating his career to the preservation, interpretation, and advancement of Nevada’s rich railroading history; and
WHEREAS, throughout his distinguished tenure, Chris achieved numerous significant milestones within the museum industry, including the restoration of pivotal 19th century railroading equipment and the development of world recognized museum practices; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his professional accomplishments, Chris has profoundly shaped the next generation of museum professionals by mentoring countless youth volunteers and emerging historians, offering patient guidance to individuals of all abilities who shared a passion for history and early industrial technology; and
WHEREAS, thanks to his leadership, many young people who learned under his direction have gone on to become museum directors, earn doctoral degrees, and serve as respected civic and professional leaders; and
WHEREAS, Chris has overseen the restoration of nationally significant pieces, including the locomotive Glenbrook, the McKeen Motor Car—the only operating example of its kind in the world—and multiple locomotives and railcars now listed on the Nevada and National Registers of Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, his dedicated efforts were instrumental in saving and relocating the historic Wabuska Depot, ensuring its preservation for future generations; and
WHEREAS, Chris further designed and installed a compact railroad system on state property, allowing thousands of Nevadans unparalleled access to railroading history and helping democratize the experience of historical interpretation for all; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada and the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs extends Chris its best wishes for a well-deserved and fulfilling retirement;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim March 7, 2026, as a day in honor of
