WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month provides an opportunity to promote public understanding of sexual violence and to advance education, prevention, and community safety across the State of Nevada; and

WHEREAS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recognize sexual violence as a serious public health issue that occurs when consent is not obtained or freely given; and

WHEREAS, community-based organizations, service providers, educators, and advocates throughout Nevada work collaboratively to prevent sexual violence, support survivors, and strengthen coordinated responses that promote accountability and safety; and

WHEREAS, sexual violence affects individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and communities, and its prevention requires shared responsibility, civic engagement, and informed action by all Nevadans; and

WHEREAS, promoting respectful relationships, consent education, and prevention strategies contributes to safer schools, workplaces, families, and communities; and

WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month encourages survivors to seek support, highlights the importance of prevention and education, and reaffirms Nevada's commitment to dignity, safety, and well-being for all residents; and

WHEREAS, 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, honoring a quarter century of survivor leadership, advocacy, and community action to end sexual assault, abuse, and harassment, while reaffirming a collective commitment to prevention, healing, and continued progress toward a future in which all people are safe, valued, and respected;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2026 as

SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
