
WHEREAS, the community colleges of Nevada continue to transform lives, strengthen local and regional economies, and advance the prosperity of our state by preparing students for careers in high-demand industries, supporting workforce development initiatives, and creating pathways to further educational attainment; and
WHEREAS, Regent Carol Del Carlo of the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents has begun her term as Chair of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Board of Directors, marking the first time in ACCT's history that a Nevadan has served in this prestigious national leadership role representing the leadership and influence of Nevada's community colleges on the national stage; and
WHEREAS, Great Basin College serves as a vital engine of economic development, workforce training, and lifelong learning across rural Nevada, offering certificates, associate degrees, and bachelor's degrees, many available online, to meet community needs while fostering an environment of support, innovation, and excellence through the dedication of its faculty, staff, and administrators; and
WHEREAS, Western Nevada College plays a crucial role in providing accessible, high-quality education and workforce training throughout rural Nevada, empowering students and strengthening communities through its commitment to educational excellence and opportunity; and
WHEREAS, the College of Southern Nevada has empowered students and communities to achieve, succeed, and prosper since 1971, educating approximately 50,000 students annually, generating a $1.2 billion economic impact in the region, offering more than 300 degrees and certificates, including 56 fully online programs, and providing robust student engagement opportunities through 10 intercollegiate athletic programs; and
WHEREAS, Truckee Meadows Community College serves approximately 20,000 students annually in credit and non-credit courses across four Northern Nevada educational sites, leading in innovative education and providing essential student support services, including counseling, tutoring, and advising, to promote retention, completion, and student success; and
WHEREAS, the community colleges of Nevada continue to transform lives, strengthen local economies, and contribute to the prosperity of our state by preparing students for careers in high-demand industries and further educational opportunities;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2026 as
COMMUNITY COLLEGE MONTH IN NEVADA
