
WHEREAS, children are vital to our state's future success, prosperity and quality of life as well as being our most vulnerable assets; and
WHEREAS, all children deserve safe, stable environments and healthy child development to lay the foundation for community and economic progress; and
WHEREAS, child abuse is a serious problem affecting every segment of our community, with more than 43,000 child protective services referrals received for about 60,000 unique children statewide between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025; and
WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention strategies succeed because of discussion, action and partnerships created among citizens, human service agencies, schools, faith-based communities, health care providers, civic organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the business community; and
WHEREAS, Nevada must make every effort to promote programs and activities that benefit our children and families by increasing awareness about child abuse and enhancing the social and emotional well-being of children and families; and
WHEREAS, "Pinwheels of Possibility: With families at the center, the possibilities are endless" is the 2026 Child Abuse Prevention Month theme; and
WHEREAS, throughout the month of April, Nevadans from across the state will display pinwheels and plant pinwheel gardens as a symbolic expression of our state's collective commitment to protecting our children and providing them with safe, positive, and nurturing environments;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2026 as
CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH IN NEVADA
