
WHEREAS, ovarian cancer is the second most common gynecologic cancer in the United States and remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women; and
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society estimates there will be approximately 20,890 women who will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer in 2025; and
WHEREAS, according to American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in men, behind lung cancer in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society estimates there will be approximately 2,680 new Prostate cancer cases in Nevada in 2025, it is the most common cancer among men - about one out of every eight men will be diagnosed in his lifetime; and
WHEREAS, it is important to raise awareness, promote education, best practices, and actionable resources around ovarian and prostate cancer to reduce individual risk through prevention and early detection efforts; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is working to improve policies, systems, and environmental changes to help individuals prevent cancer, detect it earlier, and access adequate treatment and support at all stages of the disease; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is dedicated to closing the disparities gap for communities disproportionately affected by ovarian and prostate cancers; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada commends the many organizations, agencies, and individuals working to increase awareness, provide education, encourage prevention, and promote accessible health care to reduce the prevalence and manage ovarian and prostate cancer in communities throughout the State;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of September 2025 as
OVARIAN AND PROSTATE CANCER PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
