
WHEREAS, Native Americans are the original inhabitants of the territories that now constitute the United States of America, and have made invaluable contributions to the economic, cultural, and civic heritage of our nation; and
WHEREAS, the great State of Nevada has acknowledged Native American Day since 1997, honoring the Northern Paiute, the Southern Paiute, the Western Shoshone, the Washoe, and the Mojave peoples for their stewardship as the first caretakers of the lands and waterways; and
WHEREAS, Nevada is home to more than 105,000 American Indians, including 28 federally recognized Tribal Nations, Bands, and Colonies, and more than 60,000 Urban Indians, each with unique traditions and identities spanning generations; and
WHEREAS, since Nevada’s founding in 1864, Native Americans have strengthened the fabric of our state by building a future grounded in dignity, respect, and partnership, and by preserving their culture through oral histories, dance, native regalia, and traditional foods; and
WHEREAS, Nevada reaffirms its commitment to respect tribal sovereignty and self-determination, and understanding among all Nevadans, and to improve the quality of life for the first people of this land; and
WHEREAS, the great State of Nevada wishes to proudly recognize the outstanding contributions of Nevada’s Indigenous people, commemorate the achievements of the Tribal Nations community in Nevada and invite all Nevadans to celebrate our state’s Native American heritage, culture, and history;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim September 26, 2025, as
NATIVE AMERICAN DAY IN NEVADA
