WHEREAS, the Clark County Black Caucus founded the Black Student Union (BSU) Network in 2015, in partnership with the Clark County School District, as a student lead organization whose members of all races, ethnicities, and genders are valued and engage in opportunities to improve school climate and culture, develop strong relationships of trusts, build life and leadership skills, and strive for student success; and

WHEREAS, students serve as mentors, leaders, peer ambassadors for mental health, perform community service, and engage in civic activities such as visiting and participating in the Nevada Legislative session, engaging in roundtables with the Governor, State Superintendent for the Nevada Department of Education, Supreme Court Justices, and learning about the history of Nevada; and

WHEREAS, over 1600 students are at the center of their own educational journey, building community of hope and opportunity where students feel seen, valued, emotionally supported, and ready for college and a career; and

WHEREAS, the demand for this program and programs like this is demonstrated in a decade of success where the BSU Network chartered with 5 clubs and is now represented on almost 60 campuses, and is experiencing a growth rate of 1100%; and

WHEREAS, club advisors provide a nurturing environment and work with school administration to create opportunities to serve in leadership roles on campus, plan and implement successful events, while building relationships, a sense of pride and accomplishment, and value to their school community; and

WHEREAS, middle school alignment to their high school is a priority to create a more positive experience in their high school transition, and efforts are currently focused on building greater alignments and mentoring opportunities for students; and

WHEREAS, students feel empowered through their club experience and want to stay connected, and therefore the BSU Network has launched their Alumni Chapter to continue supporting students through their college experience in celebration of their 10th Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, BSU Alumni are achieving their educational goals and recognizing their dreams, becoming engineers, medical and mental health professionals, educators, entrepreneurs, and more, and graduating with honors, Masters, and Doctorates, our students are achieving, thriving, and succeeding; and

WHEREAS, the BSU Network celebrates its 10th anniversary and a decade of student success;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim October 10, 2025, as a day of commemoration of the

BSU 10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
