Seal of the State of Nevada

WHEREAS, Memorial Day provides an opportunity for all Americans to honor and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while defending the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, Memorial Day carries on a tradition started in 1868 whereby we decorate the graves of our fallen heroes with the American flag and recognize that we can never fully repay the debt we owe to them; and

WHEREAS, the great state of Nevada is proud to honor and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by our service men and women so that we may never forget those who laid down their lives to protect our nation, preserve our liberty, and defend the rights and ideals upon which our nation was founded; and

WHEREAS, to recognize those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, Nevada will join all States and Territories in flying the American flag at half-staff from sunrise until noon on this Memorial Day on all buildings and grounds under State jurisdiction; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: “The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada.”

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, pursuant to the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada, hereby direct that all American flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon on May 26, 2025, in observance of Memorial Day.
