WHEREAS, across Nevada, abundant forms of energy are powering more homes and businesses than ever before; and
WHEREAS, clean, renewable energy is part of America's energy future, and it includes generation from renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal; and
WHEREAS, 7 of Nevada's largest power plants by generation are natural gas-fired; and natural gas accounted for 56 percent of the total net generation in 2023; and
WHEREAS, Nevada ranks eighth in the nation in total solar capacity and generation, and energy from solar power provides approximately 26 percent electricity generated in the state, with new solar projects being regularly developed; and
WHEREAS, Nevada, in 2023, accounted for 26 percent of the nation's geothermally-sourced electricity generation; and has a first-of-its-kind hybrid geothermal-solar power plant, which combines geothermal power with solar PV and solar thermal generation; and
WHEREAS, Nevada has a large clean energy employment sector, with over 32,800 jobs in 2022; and
WHEREAS, Nevada's energy sector is strong with abundant renewable resources, modern infrastructure, and incentives attracting global developers, driving economic growth as clean energy jobs increase; and
WHEREAS, Clean Energy Week supports solutions for America's energy needs, and we must harness collaboration between Nevada entrepreneurs, small businesses, and government to assert American energy leadership and ensure low-cost, reliable energy choices for all;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of September 23-27, 2024, as
CLEAN ENERGY WEEK IN NEVADA
