WHEREAS, Nevada is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting Nevada; and
WHEREAS, based on recent data, in the United States, home fires were responsible for 243,352 of the 331,760 structural fires that fire departments reported responding to. Out of these total fires, 2,160 home fire deaths, 5,864 civilians injured, and over $7 billion were reported lost; and
WHEREAS, Nevada's first responders are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and fire injuries through awareness, prevention, and protection education; and
WHEREAS, the 2024 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Smoke alarms: Make them work for you," effectively serves to educate everyone about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home; and
WHEREAS, the people of Nevada are encouraged to follow "Learn the WHY behind the campaign's key calls to action: INSTALL, TEST, and REPLACE" their smoke alarms for Fire Prevention Week 2024 and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of Nevada's fire and emergency services; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Nevada State Fire Marshal is to protect life, property and the environment from fire and hazardous materials in the state of Nevada;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of Oct0ber 6-12, 2024 as
FIRE PREVENTION WEEK IN NEVADA
