
WHEREAS, The Adjutant General for the State of Nevada Major General Ondra L. Berry has served with unwavering dedication and exceptional distinction in the United States Air Force since enlisting in September 1986; and
WHEREAS, Major General Berry has demonstrated passion and commitment to excellence throughout his career in law enforcement, the military and in the private sector at MGM Resorts; and
WHEREAS, Major General Berry's illustrious career began with his initial assignment to the Nevada Air National Guard with the 152nd Mission Support Squadron, and has since spanned across various capacities culminating in his current role as the first African American to serve as The Adjutant General for the State of Nevada; and
WHEREAS, Major General Berry served with distinction for 25 years in the Reno Police Department, named Officer of the Year on two occasions (1985 and 1986), serving in various capacities until achieving the position of Assistant Police Chief before his retirement from law enforcement in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Major General Berry has been a recipient of numerous prestigious awards and decorations to include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and various state and national-level honors recognizing his stellar service and leadership; and
WHEREAS, Major General Berry has volunteered and worked with myriad nonprofits and organizations throughout his life, including the United Way, Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, NAACP, founding member and Hall of Fame inductee of the Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society; and
WHEREAS, Major General Berry has not only served with distinction in garrison but has also gone above and beyond as an officer by representing the enlisted members of not only the Nevada National Guard but the enlisted of the 54 states and territories, influencing and motivating Airmen and Soldiers across the nation; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada expresses deep gratitude to Major General Ondra L. Berry for his four decades of honorable service to our country and to the State of Nevada. We commend him for his leadership, commitment, sacrifice, and on behalf of all Nevadans, we extend our best wishes for reaching retirement from the military on October 31, 2024;
