WHEREAS, during Asian Culture Day, the State of Nevada recognizes the many contributions the Asian Pacific Islander community has made to our great State and celebrates the rich history and cultural traditions of our nation’s Asian Pacific Islander people; and

WHEREAS, Asian Pacific Islander men and women contribute to our communities in all areas of life, including government, business, arts and sciences, education, healthcare, human services, law enforcement, the military; and

WHEREAS, more than 300,000 Asian Pacific Islanders call the Silver State their home and they are the fastest-growing demographic group in Nevada and the United States, and they have maintained their warm and welcoming culture, customs, and traditions in an effort to pass them on to future generations; and

WHEREAS, diversity represents one of our greatest strengths, and by recognizing the contributions and accomplishments of Asian Pacific Islanders, our state celebrates the importance of inclusion to build a brighter future for all our residents; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada calls upon the news media, educators, business and labor leaders, and governmental officers to recognize and bring attention to the important contributions of Asian Pacific Islanders to the Nevada and the United States of America;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 18, 2024 as

ASIAN CULTURE DAY IN NEVADA
