WHEREAS, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease of the central nervous system, affecting nearly 1 million people in the United States; and
WHEREAS, MS is three times more common in females than males and, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, approximately 4,000 Nevadans live with MS; and
WHEREAS, MS generally strikes individuals between ages 20 and 50, and symptoms can start as tingling, numbness in the limbs or nerves, loss of mobility, coordination and vision and progress to paralysis; and
WHEREAS, while there is currently no cure for MS, those diagnosed and their families can find support and information on living with MS; and
WHEREAS, managing MS is an ongoing process and Nevadans are encouraged to understand health care and treatment options to manage this disease; and
WHEREAS, Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week is an opportunity to bring attention to the signs, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis and encourage all Nevadans to raise awareness about this disease;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of March18-22, 2024 as
MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AWARENESS WEEK IN NEVADA
