WHEREAS, Agriculture Day is celebrated to honor the contribution to our State by the industrious Nevadans along the food and agriculture supply chain; and
WHEREAS, recognizing Agriculture Day provides the opportunity for all Nevadans to appreciate the breadth and beauty of Nevada’s food and agriculture industries; and
WHEREAS, Agriculture Day highlights how food, fiber and fuel products are produced as well as the role Nevada farmers and ranchers play in providing safe, high-quality products, despite drought, adverse weather, pests, and disease; and
WHEREAS, the distinction of Nevada agriculture is built on a solid history of good stewardship of the land and sustainable agricultural practices; and
WHEREAS, 3,122 farms and ranches cover more than 5.8 million acres across the Silver State, both urban and rural; and
WHEREAS, livestock and the production of alfalfa hay, allium crops (onions and garlic), and various crops, fruits and vegetables contribute to the State’s economy; and
WHEREAS, Nevada’s food, beverage and specialty product manufacturers make up a significant segment of agricultural economic impact for the State with an economic output of $3 billion in 2022;
WHEREAS, food and agriculture is one of Nevada's most vital industry sectors, employing over 18,000 Nevadans and contributing $5.7 billion to the State's economy in 2023;
WHEREAS, on Agriculture Day in Nevada the food and agriculture sector of Nevada are recognized for providing the food fiber and fuel to sustain our communities, their contributions to Nevada’s economy through production, exports and employment, and conscientious stewardship of the land for future generations of farming and ranching in the Silver State;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim March 19, 2024 as
AGRICULTURE DAY IN NEVADA
