Seal of the State of Nevada

WHEREAS, Overdose Awareness Day is observed annually on August 31st, and serves as a day to stand alongside survivors, their families, friends, and communities, while helping to raise awareness and increase education that overdose-related death is preventable; and

WHEREAS, the opioid crisis and substance use disorders continue to significantly impact Nevadans, families, and communities within our state, with devastating consequences on public health and safety; and

WHEREAS, most recent data reveals that there were 1,141 overdose deaths in Nevada in 2023; and

WHEREAS, help is available and there is support for those who are ready to work toward a physically and emotionally healthy lifestyle; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada has worked to empower communities in the fight against overdose deaths, including opioid overdose, by providing resources and support; and

WHEREAS, recognizing Overdose Awareness Day underscores the importance of continuing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and emphasizes the need for compassion, understanding, and action in the face of this public health challenge; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada joins organizations and community members in the fight for Nevada's families. A collaborative effort is needed to make significant strides towards reducing overdose deaths and supporting loved ones affected by substance use disorders;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim August 31, 2024
