WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an opportunity to bring attention to sexual violence and raise public awareness in order to educate communities; and

WHEREAS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention define sexual violence as sexual activity when consent is not obtained or freely given; and

WHEREAS, organizations across Nevada are taking a stand against sexual assault and are dedicated to sexual assault prevention and education efforts to change societal myths and behaviors that perpetuate sexual assault; and

WHEREAS, sexual assault is not confined to any one group of people, but crosses all economic, racial, and societal barriers and requires all Nevadans to take action to reduce harm; and

WHEREAS, anyone can be a leader in preventing and ending sexual violence and as employers, educators, parents, and friends, we all have an obligation to uphold the basic principle that every individual should be free from violence and fear; and

WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an opportunity to support survivors, increase education and prevention efforts, and take a stand against sexual assault;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2024 as

SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
