WHEREAS, all children deserve safe, stable environments and healthy child development in foundation for community and economic development; and
WHEREAS, child abuse is a serious problem affecting every segment of our community, with more than 41,000 Child Protective Services referrals received in state fiscal year 2023, and finding solutions requires discussion and action; and
WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention strategies succeed because of partnerships created among citizens, human service agencies, schools, faith-based communities, health care providers, civic organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the business community; and
WHEREAS, our state must make every effort to promote programs and activities that benefit our children and families by working to increase awareness about child abuse and promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families; and
WHEREAS, throughout the month of April, Nevadans from across the state will display pinwheels and plant pinwheel gardens as a symbolic expression of our state's collective commitment to protecting our children and providing them with safe, positive, and nurturing environments; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2024 as
CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH IN NEVADA
