WHEREAS, Senator Pete Goicoechea served the with honor and distinction in the Nevada State Legislature for twenty-two years as Assemblyman representing District 35 and as Senator representing District 19; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure in the Legislature, Senator Goicoechea helped to implement programs and legislation to support the interests of rural Nevadans, including water resource management, wildlife stewardship, access to healthcare, education, and rural workforce development; and

WHEREAS, Senator Goicoechea has been a rancher in Eureka County since 1970 and began his public service career as a Eureka County Commissioner in 1987. He was first elected to the Nevada Assembly in 2002 and served as Minority Whip from 2007 to 2010 and House Minority Leader from 2011 to 2012. He was elected to serve as Senator representing multiple rural counties in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Senator Goicoechea served on numerous committees and councils. He is a member of the State Land Use Planning Advisory Council, the Nevada Grazing Board of Districts Four and Six, the Central Committee of Nevada State Grazing Boards, and as Director of the Nevada Water Resource Association; and

WHEREAS, Senator Goicoechea has also served as a member of the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department, E Clampus Vitus, Nevada Cattleman's Association, Nevada Association of Counties, the Humboldt River Authority, and the Western States Coalition; and

WHEREAS, Senator Goicoechea's 22 years of service and dedication to the Nevada Legislature and residents of greater Nevada are deeply appreciated. Great Basin College joins Senator Goicoechea's colleagues, family, friends, and constituents in thanking him for outstanding service to the Silver State;
