WHEREAS, the third week of September has been annually proclaimed as Constitution Week to commemorate the historical significance of the United States Constitution, and the impact it continues to have through its preservation of the individual freedoms and liberties enjoyed by the people of the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, September 17, 2023 marks the 236th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America at the Constitutional Convention, and it is filling to recognize this document and celebrate our Founding Fathers; and
WHEREAS, both the continued improvement of our system of government and the advancement of our civil society requires an understanding of, and appreciation for, the institutions established by the United States Constitution; and
WHEREAS, the United States Constitution, from its Preamble and initial Articles through its Amendments, continues to define and reflect the ideals upon which our nation was founded, including the necessity for equal justice under the law, the importance of civil liberties, and the fundamental principle that ours is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people; and
WHEREAS, as beneficiaries of a proud and inspiring heritage of liberty, it is our privilege not only to promote an awareness of the pivotal role that the United States Constitution has played in shaping American history, but also to express a collective respect and admiration for America’s founding document and celebrate its importance as an enduring symbol of freedom and democracy;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of September 17-23, 2023 as
CONSTITUTION WEEK IN NEVADA
