WHEREAS, Nevada was admitted to the Union on October 31, 1864, and played an important role at a critical point in the Civil War, which had divided our country from 1861 to 1865; and
WHEREAS, the last Friday in October of each year has, by custom and law, been set aside as Nevada Day for the purpose of celebrating the anniversary of the admission of Nevada as the 36th state into the Union; and
WHEREAS, it is most fitting and proper that such an anniversary be observed by the people of Nevada in remembrance of its historic admission into the Union during the Civil War that gave us Nevada's motto "All for Our Country" and title "Battle Born"; and
WHEREAS, Nevadans proudly embrace the wide-open spirit that resonates through every corner of the State, from the high desert to snow-capped peaks, from vast desert sagebrush valleys and pinyon-juniper hills to the sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe to the 24-hour neon lights of the cities throughout our State; and
WHEREAS, the first Transcontinental Railroad and the Lincoln Highway historically linked Nevada with the nation, today's Loneliest Road in America, Extraterrestrial Highway, and Great Basin Highway link towns and cities including the 16 counties and Carson City within the Silver State; and
WHEREAS, the theme of the 85th Nevada Day Parade is 'Home Means Nevada' as a tribute to the various ways Nevada means home to its over 3 million residents who are as diverse and remarkable as its landscapes, and all those who call Nevada home enrich its history and culture; and
WHEREAS, the 2023 Parade Grand Marshals, Chris Orr and Dave Santina, bring viewers to every corner of Nevada highlighting the state's amazing beauty and opportunity for adventure on PBS Reno's Wild Nevada; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim October 31, 2023 as
