WHEREAS, Nevada is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting Nevada; and
WHEREAS, based on recent data, in the United States, cooking fires were the leading cause of fires responsible for 99,068 of the 321,459 fires that fire departments reported responding to. Out of these total fires, 1,542 civilian deaths, 5,354 civilians injured, and over $11 billion dollars were reported lost; and
WHEREAS, Nevada's first responders are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and fire injuries through education, awareness, prevention, and protection; and
WHEREAS, the 2023 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention," effectively serves as a reminder to all of us the importance of cooking fires as the leading cause of home fires and fire injuries. Many cooking fires and injuries are preventable. Help keep your family safe with simple but effective tips and techniques; and
WHEREAS, the people of Nevada are encouraged to follow "Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention" for Fire Prevention Week 2023 and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of Nevada's fire and emergency services;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of Oct0ber 8-14, 2023 as
FIRE PREVENTION WEEK IN NEVADA
