WHEREAS, Captain Michael Edgell began his 25-year law enforcement career in 1998 as a patrol officer with the Nevada Highway Patrol; and
WHEREAS, during Captain Michael Edgell's Sergeant rank, he oversaw commercial operations, traffic operations, Research and Planning, and Personnel; and
WHEREAS, in 2017, Captain Michael Edgell promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and supervised the Carson/Tahoe/Minden District; and
WHEREAS, on January 27, 2020, Captain Michael Edgell transferred to the Training Division where he managed all of the Department's academy operations, training, and staff including Cadets, Corporals, Sergeants, and capital improvement projects updating facilities and dorms; and
WHEREAS, upon his promotion to Captain at the Division of Investigation, Captain Michael Edgell served as the Deputy Chief, overseeing all of the Division's operations and administrative functions including Major Crimes, Narcotics Enforcement, Homeland Security, and SafeVoice; and
WHEREAS, Captain Mike Edgell dedicated a large portion of his career to keeping Nevada's roads safer through the detection and apprehension of impaired drivers. Captain Edgell consistently led Northern Nevada in number of monthly DUI arrests made and became a certified DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) and DRE instructor. Captain Edgell was also certified as an "Expert Witness" for DUI litigation and provided testimony at DUI trials and hearings around the state; and
WHEREAS, on October 6, 2023, Captain Michael Edgell will officially retire with 25 years and 8 months of dedicated and professional service in law enforcement, concluding his distinguished career as Captain with the Nevada Division of Investigation; and
WHEREAS, on behalf of all Nevadans we extend to Captain Michael Edgell our sincere thanks and gratitude for his 25 years of professional excellence and loyal service to the State of Nevada;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim October 6, 2023 as a day in honor of
