WHEREAS, the National and
Community Service Trust Act in 1994 thereby established the Nevada Commission
on Volunteerism and Service and designated Nevada Volunteers as the Governor's
Commission on Service on May 15, 1999; and
WHEREAS, the mission of Nevada Volunteers is to leverage financial investment, training, and support for nonprofit partners, municipalities, and State of Nevada agencies to promote national service, volunteerism, and program initiatives that improve well-being for Nevadans; and
WHEREAS, Nevada Volunteers accomplishes its mission by empowering citizens to meet the needs of their fellow Nevadans and recognizing the efforts of outstanding national service members, volunteers, and organizations throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, service builds cohesive, safer, stronger communities that celebrate inclusion, service, and community renewal; and
WHEREAS, since its inception, Nevada Volunteers has been awarded, administered, and provided mandated oversight for more than $50 million in federal, State, and matching funds for national service, volunteer, and recognition programs; and
WHEREAS, throughout this great State thousands of Nevadans are engaged in service and volunteer activities each and every day and individuals, groups, and civic organizations serving those in need and helping our communities thrive; and
WHEREAS, individuals, community leaders, and organizations across the state of Nevada will join Nevada Volunteers in a Day of Service on May 15, 2023, the Nevada Volunteers 25th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada declares May 15, 2023, Nevada Volunteers Day and congratulates and commends the work of Nevada Volunteers and for the invaluable work of strengthening, supporting, and advancing civic engagement and encourages all Nevadans to seek and find opportunities to serve so that-together-the Silver State will shine a bright light in our great Nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the day of May 15, 2023 as
VOLUNTEERS DAY IN NEVADA
