WHEREAS, the travel industry contributes to the success for all industries by driving sales growth, innovation, education, and operations that move Nevada's economy forward; and

WHEREAS, the travel industry has and will continue to be an essential part of Nevada's economy, development and workforce; and

WHEREAS, 43.2 million travelers visited Nevada in 2021 providing significant economic benefits for the state, generating $39.4 billion in visitor spending revenue and $4.4 billion in total tourism-related local and state tax revenue in fiscal year 2021; and

WHEREAS, travel is an economic powerhouse for every state and destination across the country, with an economic output of $2.6 trillion in 2022, supporting 14.5 million American jobs and 19.3% of Nevada's workforce; and

WHEREAS, travel is an essential industry, and welcoming visitors from near and far has always been, and will remain, the enduring culture of the tourism industry in Nevada; and

WHEREAS, National Travel and Tourism Week provides an opportunity for Nevadans across the State to recognize that travel is an essential industry that leads to economic prosperity, benefits businesses and fosters mutual understanding; and

WHEREAS, Nevadans are urged to celebrate this important industry by traveling to a destination in the Silver State;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of May 7-13, 2023 as

TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK NEVADA
