WHEREAS, Law Day is commemorated annually in the U.S. on May 1st to celebrate the rule of law in our society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of how law and the legal process protect our liberty, strive to achieve justice, and contribute to the freedoms that all Americans share; and
WHEREAS, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, young adults may act more mature in some areas of their lives, but still child-like in others as their brains are still developing, so it is expected for them to be more emotionally volatile, impulsive, and engage in risk-taking; and
WHEREAS, during Nevada Youth Law Awareness Day we call upon adults to engage in conversations with young people around relevant, real-world situations to help young people develop a better understanding of the difference between choices that lead to getting into trouble at home and school, and those that may lead to arrests and other more serious consequences; and
WHEREAS, by having conversations around these scenarios, adults can provide young people with information about their choices, the potential risks they are taking, and the legal consequences that they may face; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2023 as
NEVADA YOUTH LAW AWARENESS DAY
