WHEREAS, problem gambling is a public health issue affecting Nevadans of all ages, races and ethnic backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, problem gambling has a significant personal and economic impact on individuals, families, businesses and communities across the state; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada provides residents access to affordable treatment services and supports problem gambling prevention, education and research initiatives, through the Revolving Account for the Prevention and Treatment of Problem Gambling; and
WHEREAS, the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling and the Governor's Advisory Committee on Problem Gambling work with all stakeholders to provide sustainable programs and services to reduce the impact of problem gambling, while providing access to information, treatment and support services through the 24-hour confidential National Problem Gambling HelpLine (1-800-GAMBLER) and websites WhenTheFunStops.org and ProjectWorthNV.org; and
WHEREAS, over the past decade, more than 5,000 Nevadans received state-funded treatment services, resulting in significant improvements in quality of life and successful reduction in gambling behaviors and gambling related problems; and
WHEREAS, addressing and preventing problem gambling is a health and wellness priority in the Silver State, and an important component for Nevada's continued leadership in the global gaming industry;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of March 2023 as
PROBLEM GAMBLING AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
