WHEREAS, Agriculture Day is celebrated to honor the contribution to our State by the industrious Nevadans along the food and agriculture supply chain; and

WHEREAS, Agriculture Day highlights how food, fiber and fuel products are produced, as well as the role Nevada farmers and ranchers play in providing safe, high-quality products, despite drought, adverse weather, pests and disease; and

WHEREAS, 3,602 farms and ranches cover more than 9 million acres across the Silver State, both urban and rural; and
WHEREAS, livestock and the production of alfalfa hay, allium crops (onions and garlic), and various other crops, fruits and vegetables contribute to the State's economy; and
WHEREAS, Nevada's food, beverage and specialty product manufacturers make up a significant segment of agricultural economic impact for the State with an economic output of $4.3 billion in 2020; and
WHEREAS, food and agriculture is one of Nevada's most vital industry sectors, employing nearly 19,000 Nevadans and contributing $5.2 billion to the State's economy in 2020; and
WHEREAS, on Agriculture Day in Nevada the food and agriculture sector of Nevada are recognized for providing the food, fiber and fuel to sustain our communities, their contributions to Nevada's economy through production, exports and employment, and conscientious stewardship of the land for future generations of farming and ranching in the Silver State;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the day of March 21, 2023 as
AGRICULTURE DAY IN NEVADA
