WHEREAS, since the earliest days of America's history, immigrants from every corner of the globe have contributed to developing our nation's economy, building our infrastructure, and helping to define our nation's character; and
WHEREAS, across each generation throughout our history, waves of immigrants have enriched our Great State making us stronger and more innovative; and
WHEREAS, over 614,000 immigrants call the Silver State their home, with immigrants making up close to 20 percent of our State's population; and
WHEREAS, immigrants have contributed to our society as leading figures in politics, small and large businesses, education, arts and entertainment, science and technology; and
WHEREAS, immigrants continue to innovate and strengthen our economy by creating jobs in Nevada and providing unique social, historical, and cultural influences and traditions that enrich the great character of our State;
WHEREAS, immigrants have remained tireless leaders, not only in securing their own rights and access to equal opportunity, but also by campaigning to create a more fair and just society for all Americans; and
WHEREAS, immigrants have played a critical role as essential workers - in areas such as healthcare and agricultural work - with immigrants compromising 27 percent of the essential workers in Nevada; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada joins communities and states across the nation to celebrate the important role of immigrants in the history of our great State and country, as well as recognizing the important role they continue to have in shaping our future; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2023 as
IMMIGRANT HERITAGE MONTH IN NEVADA
