WHEREAS, on January 20, 2023 Richard Newton is retiring from the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services after 28 years of loyal, diligent and exceptional public service to the State of Nevada; and
WHEREAS, Richard began his career with the State of Nevada on July 6, 1994 as a Social Worker I with the Division of Aging and Disability Services. He transferred to the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services as a Social Worker II in May 2005. He was promoted to Social Work Supervisor I in March 2008 where he has worked until his retirement; and
WHEREAS, Richard served the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services with dedication and commitment, providing quality social work services, supervision and assistance to our community, helping countless families and their children move toward self-sufficiency in the State of Nevada and is commended for a job well done; and
WHEREAS, Richard has provided valuable service to multiple Division of Welfare and Supportive Services locations, including the Charleston, Nellis, Owens and Henderson District Offices. He has touched the lives of many clients demonstrating a thorough knowledge and understanding of the programs and goals of the division; and
WHEREAS, during his 28 years of service Richard has worked under five Governors including Kenny Guinn, Jim Gibbons, Brian Sandoval, Steve Sisolak and Joe Lombardo and eight Administrators including, Mike Willden, Myla Florence, Nancy Ford, Romaine Gilliland, Diane Comeaux, Mike McMahon, Steve Fisher, and Robert Thompson; and
WHEREAS, the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services on behalf of its employees and clients extend to Richard Newton sincere thanks and gratitude for his 28 years of commitment and excellence and service to the Citizens of the Silver State. He is able to leave his position with dignity and grace knowing that he has made a difference in our community;
