WHEREAS, millions of law-abiding Nevadans, young and old, participate in hunting and other shooting sports annually; and
WHEREAS, target shooting, one of America's favorite past times, is a sage and fun activity; and
WHEREAS, shooting sports programs, and instruction by trained family members and mentors, affirm the role of local communities as the primary teacher of the rule of law and personal responsibility; and
WHEREAS, sportsman and hunters teach others to understand the responsibilities of owning and using a firearm while also working to ensure that our natural resources are safeguarded; and
WHEREAS, in 2022, those engaged in shooting sports and hunting contributed more than $20 million in funding for wildlife and conservation efforts through the Pittman-Robertson excise tax levied on firearms and ammunition; and
WHEREAS, the shooting sports industry contributes greatly to Nevada's economy by generating more than $800 million in total economic activity in the Battle Born state, and supports more than 1,800 jobs; and
WHEREAS, the shooting sports industry also holds SHOT show, the 4th largest trade show in the state of Nevada contributing over $88 million per year to the state’s economy;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of August 2023 as
SHOOTING SPORTS MONTH IN NEVADA
