WHEREAS, August 15, 2023, marks the 78th Anniversary of when the Korean Peninsula was liberated; and
WHEREAS, Korean Independence Day or Gwangbokjeol, meaning the restoration of light day is one of the most important public holidays in the Korean calendar after World War II allies helped end 35 years of Japanese occupation; and
WHEREAS, Korean Americans have played a vital role in the success of our great nation; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the monumental achievements and invaluable contributions made by Korean Americans that have led to America's prosperity; and
WHEREAS, we commend organizations throughout the Silver State that honor Korean heritage, traditions, and culture, and call upon educators, state officers, and news media to bring attention to the wonderful and rich contributions that have been made to our state by those of Korean heritage; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada joins communities and states across the nation to celebrate the important role of immigrants in the history of our great State and country, as well as recognize the important role they continue to have in shaping our future;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim August 15, 2023 as
KOREAN INDEPENDENCE DAY IN NEVADA
