WHEREAS, this year's National Cancer Registrars week theme, Harvesters of Data to Nurture Cancer Research" helps draw attention to the critical role that Cancer Registrars play in capturing the data that informs epidemiological research, cancer control, public health program planning, and patient care; and
WHEREAS, more than 14,000 Nevada residents will be diagnosed with cancer this year making it one of the Silver State's leading causes of death, only second after cardiovascular disease; and
WHEREAS, Cancer Registrars specialize in capturing health information for complete cancer history, diagnosis, treatment, and health status of every cancer patient in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the information gathered is reported to the Nevada Central Cancer Registry, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Cancer Institute to monitor the cancer burden throughout the State and the nation; and
WHEREAS, all citizens of Nevada are encouraged to recognize and appreciate the invaluable and dedicated contributions of Cancer Registrars;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of April 3-7, 2023 as
NATIONAL CANCER REGISTRARS WEEK IN NEVADA
