LAS VEGAS, NV - August 14, 2025

Nevada Housing Division (NHD) will celebrate 50 years of helping Nevadans on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, with an anniversary event at the Blind Center’s Visions of Greatness Event Center in Las Vegas from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The milestone event will include a ceremonial bill signing by Governor Joe Lombardo for the Nevada Housing Access and Affordability Act, which allocates $250 million in resources aimed at helping an estimated 16,000 individuals secure affordable housing across the state. Former Nevada Governor Richard Bryan, who was instrumental in the creation and launch of NHD, will make remarks following the signing.

The Housing Access and Attainability Act broadens the eligibility for affordable housing to include households earning up to 150 percent of the area median income, providing support to essential workers and middle-income residents who may not qualify for existing affordable housing programs. Additionally, the act works to reduce development barriers to increase affordable housing inventory.

“The Nevada Housing Division should be proud of the work they’ve completed over these last 50 years,” said Governor Lombardo. “We look forward to acknowledging everyone who has played a role in helping homeownership become more attainable for Nevadans as we mark this milestone and are excited to see how the Housing Access and Attainability Act will help more Nevadans secure the dream of homeownership.”

Created by the Nevada Legislature in 1975 as a division of the Department of Business and Industry, NHD was established in response to a shortage of safe and sanitary housing for persons and families with low and moderate incomes. The division administers programs to support homeownership, rental housing, and energy efficiency, including the Home Is Possible program, which provides down payment and closing cost assistance to eligible first-time buyers statewide. Nevada Housing Division also administers tax credit programs, energy-efficiency services for income-eligible households and a range of grant-funded initiatives that support affordable housing development, rental assistance and community stabilization.
