Governor Lombardo Announces Retirement of Judge James E. Wilson, Jr., Vacant Seat on First Judicial District Court

Today, Governor Joe Lombardo announced the vacancy for the First Judicial District Court of Nevada, District 2, following the resignation of Judge James E. Wilson, Jr.

In a letter addressed to Governor Lombardo, Judge James E. Wilson, Jr. announced his retirement from the First Judicial District Court, effective January 8, 2024.

In his retirement letter to Governor Lombardo, Judge Wilson wrote, “I have been very blessed. It has been an honor to serve with the other district judges throughout the state. I very much appreciate the many people, too many to name, who mentored and helped me along the way, for those who entrusted me with public office, and those who trusted me to represent them in private practice.”

“I’m grateful for Judge Wilson’s decades of public service on the First Judicial District Court,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “Throughout his career, Judge Wilson’s rulings and decisions have consistently demonstrated sound judgment, experience, and extensive knowledge. I wish him the best in his well-deserved retirement.”

To fill the vacant seat, the Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection will provide Governor Lombardo with three candidates for his consideration and selection. Interested applicants can receive an application by emailing Margarita Bautista with the Administrative Office of the Courts directly at
