EXECUTIVE ORDER 2024-004

ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF HONORING MEMORIAL DAY

WHEREAS, Memorial Day affords all Americans an opportunity to honor and remember those who have
made the ultimate sacrifice while defending our nation; and

WHEREAS, Memorial Day carries on a tradition started in 1868 whereby we decorate the graves of our
fallen heroes with the American flag and recognize that we can never fully repay the debt we owe our fallen heroes; and

WHEREAS, the great State of Nevada is proud to honor and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by our
service men and women so that we may never forget those who laid down their lives to protect our nation,
preserve our liberty, and defend the rights, and ideals upon which our nation is founded; and

WHEREAS, Nevada will join all States and Territories, in aligning with the Proclamation from President
Joe Biden that the flag be flown at half-staff until noon on this Memorial Day on all buildings, grounds,
under state jurisdiction.

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds from sunset, May 26, 2024, until 12:00 p.m., May 27, 2024, in honor of Memorial Day and the President's Proclamation of a day of prayer for peace. I also request Nevadans to display the flag at half-staff from their homes for the customary forenoon period.
