EXECUTIVE ORDER 2024-003

ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF-STAFF HONORING NATIONAL PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY

WHEREAS, in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as National Peace Officers' Memorial Day, and the week in which it falls as National Police Week; and

WHEREAS, the dedicated members of our law enforcement organizations play an essential role in safeguarding and preserving the security and freedom enjoyed by Nevadans; and

WHEREAS, it is vital for all Nevadans to recognize and appreciate the devoted and selfless efforts of police officers, taken regardless of potential peril or hazard to themselves; and

WHEREAS, members of this group daily demonstrate the utmost courage, valor, and commitment to the communities they serve, protect, and defend; and

WHEREAS, we honor and remember those who have given their lives in the line of duty and recognize the grief and loss suffered by families of those fallen officers; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

To honor and remember fallen officers across the State, the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on May 15, 2024, in observance of National Peace Officers' Memorial Day.
