EXECUTIVE ORDER 2023-009

GOVERNOR LOMBARDO ORDERS FLAGS TO HALF-STAFF TO HONOR FORMER LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR LONNIE HAMMARGREN

WHEREAS, on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, Lonnie Lee Hammargren passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada; and

WHEREAS, Lonnie Hammargren served honorably as the 31st Lieutenant Governor of Nevada from 1995 to 1999; and

WHEREAS, Lonnie Hammargren also served as a member of the Board of Regents for the Nevada System of Higher Education from 1988 to 1994; and

WHEREAS, Lonnie Hammargren was well known for his expansive and eclectic collection of artifacts and memorabilia, which he proudly displayed throughout his sprawling property, opening his home every year on Nevada Day and inviting the community to view his collection;

WHEREAS, we recognize and honor former Lt. Governor Lonnie Hammargren’s service to Nevada.

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides that, “The Supreme Executive Power of this State shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada.”

NOW, THEREFORE by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the law of the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds beginning at sunrise on Saturday, July 22, 2023, until sunset that day.
