EXECUTIVE ORDER 2023-006

GOVERNOR LOMBARDO ORDERS FLAGS AT HALF-STAFF TO HONOR REMSA PLANE CRASH VICTIMS

WHEREAS, on Friday, February 24, 2023, at 9;14pm five people were tragically killed in a plane crash in Lyon County; and

WHEREAS, the Care Flight, a service of REMSA health and operated by Guardian Flight, broke apart in midair shortly after takeoff from Reno Tahoe International Airport while heading to Salt Lake City, Utah; and

WHEREAS, the purpose of the flight was to transport Mark Rand to a Salt Lake City hospital for a higher level of care;

WHEREAS, among those killed were Scott Walton, a pilot, Ed Pricola, the flight nurse, Ryan Watson, the flight paramedic, and Mark Rand and his wife Terri Rand; and

WHEREAS, the Care Flight crew flew its mission and performed its duties heroically despite the wintery conditions; and

WHEREAS, the memory of the five lives lost in this tragic event should be honored.

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides that, "The Supreme Executive Power of this State shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada."

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the laws of the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds beginning at sunrise on Saturday March 4, 2023 until sunset of the last memorial service honoring the first responders involved in this tragedy.
