
WHEREAS, social emotional learning is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions; and
WHEREAS, social emotional learning competencies develop throughout our lives and are essential to success in our schools, workplaces, homes, and communities and allow individuals to contribute meaningfully to society; and
WHEREAS, in the Silver State, social emotional learning can be taught and developed throughout childhood, adolescence, and beyond; and
WHEREAS, schools, families and the wider community in Nevada serve an integral role in modeling, engaging, and enhancing the strength, depth, and pace of acquisition of social emotional learning competencies; and
WHEREAS, promoting social emotional learning in Nevada’s schools is an essential use of public resources due to the potential long-term social and economic benefits to society from the implementation of evidence-based social emotional learning programs; and
WHEREAS, as we emerge from this pandemic, it is incumbent on all Nevadans to support social emotional learning, particularly among Nevada’s youth and continue to work towards creating a thriving society where physical and mental wellbeing is taught and nurtured;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim March 11, 2022, as
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING DAY IN NEVADA
