
WHEREAS, on August 5, 2020, Governor Steve Sisolak proclaimed, “Racism as a Public Health Crisis in Nevada”; and
WHEREAS, during the 81st (2021) Session the Nevada Legislature passed unprecedented and historical legislation addressing systems of racism and racial disparities in Nevada; and
WHEREAS, advocates in the Silver State have played an important role in helping to inform legislators on important issues, defining public policy needs, drafting bill language, monitoring the progress of proposed legislation, and educating community members on the legislative process; and
WHEREAS, the Clark County Black Caucus is a nonpartisan community group comprised of 100% volunteers who give up their time to inform community members about public policy that impacts Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), and share the importance of civic service and responsibility; and
WHEREAS, in Honor of Black History Month, on February 22, 2022, the Clark County Black Caucus is celebrating their 15 years of community service and on their anniversary, they recognize the many social justice advocates who are fighting on the front lines for racial justice in Nevada; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada values the role social justice advocates play in the promotion of diversification of decision-making bodies across all sectors, directly and indirectly impacting the health of all people which will undoubtedly make the Silver State stronger for all Nevadans:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim February 22, 2022, as
RACIAL ADVOCACY AWARENESS DAY IN NEVADA
