WHEREAS, the long-held annual tradition of Nevada Reading Week brings together educators, families, librarians, and community members to inspire the joy and importance of reading among all students across the Silver State; and

WHEREAS, Nevada Reading Week fosters the transformative power of reading by hosting authors and providing opportunities to read a wide range of texts in print and digital formats that open doors into perspectives of culture, language, and diversity; and

WHEREAS, all children have the right to a supportive reading environment with access to literary resources and texts that mirror their individual life experiences and expand knowledge of our diverse world; and

WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Nevada Department of Education to ensure that all students have access to excellent and equitable literacy instruction and resources in order to graduate with the literacy skills to reach their full potential; and

WHEREAS, Nevada Reading Week spotlights the pivotal role of reading in empowering all Nevadans to participate fully in our communities and contribute to the future of the Silver State; and

WHEREAS, Nevada Reading Week marks a time to extend deep appreciation to all educators, families, librarians, and community members for their daily efforts aimed at strengthening the literacy of Nevada's students;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of February 28 – March 4, 2022, as

NEVADA READING WEEK
