WHEREAS, September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day, when people across the world come together to demonstrate commitment and action to prevent suicides; and

WHEREAS, the rate of servicemembers who take their lives has been rising, and the rate of suicide in the National Guard, 35.3 suicides per 100,000 soldiers, has surpassed all other military components; and

WHEREAS, suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the United States, claiming the lives of more than 45,900 people in 2020 alone; and

WHEREAS, stigma surrounding suicide and mental health is a major barrier to care for individuals with thoughts of suicide; and

WHEREAS, promoting connectedness, removing barriers to care, and creating protective environments help to prevent suicides and suicidal thoughts and behaviors; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada National Guard (NVNG) and Nevada Department of Veterans Services will conduct the first ever Suicide Prevention Forum for NVNG soldiers, airmen, families, veterans, and civilians;
