
WHEREAS, April 26, 2022, will mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frederick Law Olmsted, who is considered to be the founder of landscape architecture in the United States; and
WHEREAS, landscape architects are leaders in creating sustainable landscapes, helping to reduce water demand and energy consumption, conserve or restore natural resources and wildlife habitat, improve air quality, and regulate climate; and
WHEREAS, as licensed professionals, landscape architects have a responsibility to protect public welfare through the purposeful design of public and private spaces that provide economic, social, and environmental benefits for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy; and
WHEREAS, in the Silver State, landscape architect licenses are issued by the Nevada State Board of Landscape Architecture to those who have met the specified education, examination, and experience requirements necessary for protecting public health, safety, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, currently, there are 370 licensed landscape architects in Nevada acting as stewards of the land by designing, planning, and managing the natural and built land throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, our State’s economy benefits from licensed landscape architects through the creation of inviting and safe spaces for the public, residents, and visitors alike, while simultaneously protecting the environment and associated ecological systems;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim April 26, 2022, as
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE DAY IN NEVADA
