WHEREAS, the United States’ transatlantic economic ties with the members of the European Union are the largest and most complex in the world and taking into account the newly formed U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council; and

WHEREAS, U.S./Nevada and EU competitiveness, prosperity and the spread of democratic, market-oriented values is increased by transatlantic trade and investment in products and services of emerging technologies; and

WHEREAS, Nevada exports to the European Union amount to $3.85 billion and the European Union invests $8.44 billion in Nevada, with more than 34,000 jobs in the State created by European Union trade and investment; and

WHEREAS, December 2 and 3, 2021 were proclaimed by the Governor of the State of Nevada, as European Union Days in Nevada recognizing the high-level European Union delegation visit to the Silver State, led by the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Washington D.C., H.E. Tone Kajzer, under the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to promoting strong trade relations with our European partners and allies, particularly with economic partners with whom the merging of economic interest helps to raise standards of living; and

WHEREAS, on May 9, 1950, French foreign minister Robert Schuman presented the Schuman Declaration, celebrating peace and unity in Europe, proposing the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community, that was the first of a series of supranational European institutions that would ultimately become today’s European Union; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is proud to continue forging economic and diplomatic relations with the European Union and looks forward to continuing to innovating and strengthening this partnership for decades to come;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 9, 2022, as

EUROPE DAY IN NEVADA
